Other Ingredients

  • 3 cups shredded cheddar jack cheese (divided, this is key!)

  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 extra large burrito tortillas (Seriously, make sure they’re the big ones!)

Step-by-Step Guide to Making Your Easy Grilled Cheese Burrito Copycat Recipe

Alright, letโ€™s get down to business and make this happen! Making your own Easy Grilled Cheese Burrito Copycat Recipe is way easier (and way more fun!) than you might think. Just follow these simple steps, and you’ll be halfway to fast-food heaven in no time. It’s a bit like my easy black-eyed pea soupโ€”lots of flavor packed into simple steps!

Preparing the Seasoned Beef

First things first, let’s get that beef ready. Grab a large nonstick skillet and get it nice and warm over medium heat. Toss in your pound of ground beef. Now, break it all up like you mean it! Sprinkle on that granulated garlic, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Let it all cook together until the beef is totally cooked through, which should take about 5 to 7 minutes. Once it’s done, take it off the heat and set it aside. Easy peasy!

Creating the Chipotle Sour Cream

Next up, the creamy, dreamy chipotle sour cream! Grab a small bowl and put in your cup of sour cream. Then, add the tablespoon of chipotle hot sauce and that pinch of cayenne pepper. Give it all a good mix until it’s nice and smooth. How good does that sound already? Set this deliciousness aside for when we assemble!

Assembling Your Burrito

Okay, this is where the magic really starts to happen. Take about a quarter of that seasoned beef and pop it into a large bowl. Now, add about a quarter cup of that chipotle sour cream, a quarter cup of your cooked Spanish rice, roughly half a cup of your shredded cheddar jack cheese, and about a quarter cup of those crunchy red tortilla strips. Gently fold it all together until everything is nicely combined. You want to get a good mix without mushing it up too much. Spoon this amazing mixture right into the middle of one of your big burrito tortillas. Fold in the two sides of the tortilla, like you’re tucking it in, and then roll it up tight into a burrito shape. Make sure it’s snug! Grilling the Burrito to Golden Perfection

This is the part that makes it a *grilled cheese* burrito! Heat up that same large nonstick skillet you used before, this time over medium-high heat. Add about a teaspoon or two of olive oil. Let that oil get hot and shimmery. Now, hereโ€™s the trick: sprinkle about a quarter cup of your shredded cheese right in the center of the skillet in a rough line โ€“ this is what will give you that amazing cheesy crust. Carefully place your burrito right on top of that cheese. Now, grab a heavy cast iron skillet (or something else heavy like a pot lid) and place it right on top of the burrito. This presses it down and helps that cheese get all melty and golden. Let it cook like that for about 3 to 4 minutes, or until the bottom cheese is beautifully browned and starting to crisp up. Carefully remove the heavy skillet, then flip that burrito over. Cook the other side for another 2 to 3 minutes until it’s also golden brown. Oh yeah!

Resting and Serving Your Copycat Creation

Almost there! Once your burrito is perfectly grilled, take it out of the skillet and let it rest for just about a minute. This little pause helps everything set up beautifully, making it even more delicious. Then, serve it up warm and enjoy your incredible homemade Easy Grilled Cheese Burrito Copycat Recipe!

Tips for the Perfect Easy Grilled Cheese Burrito Copycat Recipe

Want to make your Easy Grilled Cheese Burrito Copycat Recipe absolutely epic? I’ve got a few little secrets to share that really make a difference, just like how a few smart choices can make any grilled cheese a total winner.

  • Warm Up Those Tortillas: Before you start rolling, give your extra-large tortillas a quick warm-up on a dry skillet or in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds. This makes them super pliable and way less likely to tear when you’re stuffing and rolling!
  • Don’t Skimp on the Cheese! That melted cheese on the outside? That’s the *grilled cheese* part! Make sure you create a good base of cheese in the pan before placing the burrito down. Itโ€™s your golden ticket to that crispy, cheesy crust.
  • The Perfect Beef Seasoning: Taste your seasoned beef before you assemble! Needs a little more kick? Add a touch more chili powder or a pinch of cayenne. Itโ€™s all about adjusting to your taste.
  • Press it Good: Seriously, that heavy skillet press is your best friend here. It ensures even browning and helps everything meld together beautifully. Don’t be afraid to give it a good press!

Variations and Customizations for Your Grilled Cheese Burrito

You know, the best part about this Easy Grilled Cheese Burrito Copycat Recipe is how totally customizable it is! Itโ€™s a fantastic base, kind of like my other easy dinner ideas, where you can really make it your own.

Feeling adventurous? Mix up your cheeses โ€“ maybe some pepper jack for extra heat or a bit of Monterey Jack for extra creaminess alongside that cheddar. Don’t eat beef? Ground turkey or chicken works great, or even plant-based crumbles for a vegetarian twist! Want to sneak in some veggies? Finely diced onions or bell peppers cooked with the beef are delicious. And for spice lovers, a dash of your favorite hot sauce right in the beef mixture or extra jalapeรฑos inside take it to the next level!

Frequently Asked Questions about This Easy Grilled Cheese Burrito Copycat Recipe

Got questions about whipping up your own Easy Grilled Cheese Burrito Copycat Recipe? I’ve got you covered! Let’s dive in.

Can I make the beef mixture ahead of time?

Totally! You can cook the seasoned beef mixture a day or two in advance and store it in the fridge. Just reheat it before assembling your burritos for a quick meal!

What kind of cheese works best for the grilled cheese effect?

For that amazing, crispy, grilled cheese crust, you want a cheese that melts like a dream! Cheddar Jack is awesome, but sharp cheddar, Monterey Jack, or even a mix of your favorites will give you that gooey, golden-brown perfection.

Are there vegetarian or vegan options for this recipe?

Absolutely! For a vegetarian version, swap the ground beef for seasoned black beans or plant-based crumbles. To make it vegan, use dairy-free cheese shreds and a vegan sour cream alternative, plus a plant-based burger for the “beef” layer!

How do I prevent the tortilla from breaking when rolling?

The trick is to warm your tortillas just a bit! A few seconds in the microwave or a quick spin on a dry skillet makes them super flexible and much less likely to tear when you’re stuffing and rolling your delicious burritos.
