Ingredients

For the Agua Fresca
  • 2 cups cucumber peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1 cup watermelon cubed, seeds removed
  • 1/4 cup lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 2-4 tablespoons sugar or to taste
  • 2 cups water plus more if needed
  • Ice cubes for serving
  • Mint sprigs for garnish (optional)

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Fine-mesh sieve
  • Pitcher

Method

  1. Combine the chopped cucumber, cubed watermelon, lime juice, and sugar in a blender.
  2. Add 2 cups of water to the blender. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve set over a pitcher, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.
  4. Taste and add more water or sugar if desired. Stir well.
  5. Chill the agua fresca in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve over ice, garnished with mint sprigs if desired.

Notes

For a less sweet drink, reduce the amount of sugar. You can also add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors.
