Firecracker Rice Krispie Treats

Celebrate the Fourth of July with these festive and easy-to-make Firecracker Rice Krispie Treats. They are a fun and colorful dessert that kids and adults will love.

Ingredients
  

For the Treats
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 package marshmallows (10 oz)
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
For Decoration
  • 1/2 cup white candy melts
  • 1/4 cup blue candy melts
  • 1/4 cup red candy melts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon star sprinkles

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Spatula

Method
 

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat. Add the Rice Krispies cereal and stir until well coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  4. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan using a buttered spatula or wax paper.
  5. Let the treats cool for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Melt the white candy melts with 1/2 tablespoon of vegetable shortening in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
  7. Melt the blue candy melts with 1/4 tablespoon of vegetable shortening in a separate bowl using the same method.
  8. Melt the red candy melts with the remaining 1/4 tablespoon of vegetable shortening in another bowl using the same method.
  9. Drizzle the melted candy melts over the cooled Rice Krispie treats in a firecracker pattern. Immediately sprinkle with star sprinkles before the candy sets.
  10. Let the candy coating harden completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

For cleaner cuts, use a sharp knife dipped in hot water. You can also use different colored sprinkles to match your theme.
