Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 6 cups apples peeled, cored, and sliced (about 6 medium)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
For the Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter cold and cut into small pieces

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Large bowl
  • Medium bowl
  • Peeler
  • Knife

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into the 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the topping.
  5. Add the cold butter pieces to the dry topping ingredients. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
  7. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
  8. Let the apple crisp cool slightly before serving. It is best served warm.

Notes
